*GRADING THE BRAHMIN –

Brahminism as we know it, is not yet another caste but it seems like yet another typical religion with different castes within. We can find Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Sudras and athi-sudras within the group which calls itself Brahmin. The Brahmin can be graded on three primary characteristics

2. The one who takes DAKSHINA(fees): Those who are expected to offer services like EXPLAINing the Sanskrit text in native tongue, help people in fulfilling religious formalities, sometimes a yoga and ayurveda practitioner, etc.,

3. The one who takes SAM’BHAAVANA (offering with a good feeling): He serves only god, helps people without any selfishness. What we benefit from him may be as precious as life. We offer him whatever is possible to us. We cannot value his service in any material form. He is least bothered about anyones material ability and helps everyone who approaches him irrespective of their status. He who does not bow before anyone except the divine.

Brahmin requires two main qualities:
He must be DVIJUDU means one who had taken two births – one physical birth and another is SPIRITUAL BIRTH (It is possible only through pure suffering* and unconditional attachment with the divinity) *Suffering need not always be in material form. Feel and weep whole heartedly at the pain of someone else with whom you have NO material benefit. VAISNAVA JANATHO THENE KAHIYE JO PEED PARAAYI JAANE RE = one who belongs to god, knows the pain of others.
If the person had not taken this second birth, he is a sudra even if he is born from Brahmin parents: EVERYONE WHO HAS TAKEN THIS SECOND BIRTH IS THE TRUE BRAHMIN even if he is born of Sudra parents. THIS IS THE ETERNAL TRUTH. Just by wearing a thread @ janjam no one becomes twice born.

2. He must be VIPRUDU (Wipro) – the inspired. The one who learns from everything and anything around him.

Adi sankara wrote a number of vedantic hymns for imparting knowledge of the self and the universal spirit
He also composed a number of hymns to foster bhakti in the hearts of men
One of these hymns is the famous bhaja govindam

The way of devotion is not different from the way of knowledge
When intelligence matures and lodges securely in the mind it becomes wisdom. When wisdom is integrated with life and issues out in action it becomes bhakti
Knowledge when it becomes fully matured is bhakti
If it does not get transformed into bhakti such knowledge is useless tinsel
To believe that jnana and bhakti @ knowledge and devotion are different from each other is ignorance

If sri adi sankara himself who drank the oceon of jnana as easily as one sips water from the palm of ones hand sang in his later years hymns to develop devotion.
It is enough to show that jnana and bhakti are one and the same.
Sri sankara has packed into the bhaja govindam the substance of all Vedanta and set the oneness of jnana and bhakti to melodious music.

WHOM THE DIVINE CHOOSES FOR HIS WORK
